This week, pain was my main focus. I also wanted to highlight that physical pain isn't the only kind of pain that you should pay attention to. Mental health is very important. After all, your brain is what controls the rest of your body, so if that isn't healthy, how can you expect the rest of you to be? Never feel worried or judged that you may need to ask for help from a mental perspective. We have all been there, and there is certainly nothing to be ashamed of.
While we here at Wirth can't do much of anything about mental health problems, we certainly can help with physical pain. Sometimes pain is a physical manifestation of mental health issues, but whatever the cause, we can certainly attempt to make the pain stop. This is true of any joint or muscle pain. While chiropractors have a stereotype of dealing with the neck and back, we can actually work on any part of the body as long as there is a joint. This means that arms, legs, hands, and feet are all within our realm of capabilities.
It doesn't matter what age you are, pain can strike anyone at any time. We know this is true, and we know that some disorders don't have a definite diagnosis yet. This means that we understand that just because you don't have a name to put to your pain doesn't mean you don't have it. Too often, people in the medical community disregard reports of pain if there is not an obvious reason for it. Here at Wirth, we understand that pain can sometimes be felt and not pinned down. This is common with people who suffer from certain forms of arthritis and fibromyalgia. This is especially true if they are younger, as there is a false belief that these types of disorders are for those who are older. We know that this is not always true.
If you are suffering from pain, aches, stiffness, or any other problems like these, please head into Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville, NC. We will do everything within our power to make you feel better and send you home pain free. Even just a single spinal adjustment can make a huge difference, although we do recommend coming back on a regular basis. Not only will it help you, but then we get to see you more often. It's a win-win!

This week we really wanted to focus on back pain. Back pain is an epidemic that affects thousands if not millions of Americans every single day. While every person's pain is caused by a different set of circumstances, we never want to see someone suffering, especially if it can be helped. If you have back pain, especially chronic back pain, we want you to know that there may be things that you can do to relieve yourself of it. Getting rid of your back pain may just be the best thing you've ever been able to do for yourself.
If you are like us, then you will do just about everything possible before going into surgery. Surgery is time consuming, stressful, and often very expensive. Even things like medication may not be your favorite option. While they may help, pills often only mask the symptoms and don't get to the root of the problem. While this is okay for something like a minor pulled muscle, it will not be much help for a severe injury or something that has pain that lasts for more than a day or two. You don't want to take too much medication for many reasons, but what else can you do if you have a hurt back?
If you are in pain, then you should definitely come into Wirth Chiropractic. We often see a lot of people during the warmer months because we are all more active when it's warmer. While the winter does have issues of its own, the summer sees us all enjoying ourselves which unfortunately can mean that it's easier for us to get hurt. I don't know about you, but I love going outside and walking around, maybe tossing a ball around with some friends, and doing other things around the house to spruce the place up a bit and clean it. I can't tell you how many times I've fallen off of a step ladder while trying to clean on top of the cabinets and hurt my back while doing a spring cleaning type thing in my house. If this happens to you, then don't hesitate to come into Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville, NC as soon as you can!

This week, I really wanted to focus on letting you know that most concerns that you may have about going to a chiropractor are not necessary. If you are like most people, any time you are heading into a doctor's office is worrying. However, we wanted to really put some of those fears to rest for you because we are probably the least terrifying doctors you will ever meet. We are like the panda bears of the doctor world; we're just super cuddly and want you to love us.
Many people are under the impression that chiropractors are not real doctors. This is a fairly silly belief because chiropractors go through medical school just like anyone else. In fact, just like any other specialty, chiropractors go through extra medical school to get their specification just like if we were going for orthopedic surgery. The only difference is the name of our type of practice and what exactly it is that we do. We don't have to go to learn about surgery because we hope that we can solve your issue before it comes to that. We don't have to learn about medications and what mixes well with what because we hope that we can fix whatever has happened without having you take pills for the rest of your life. Even though we don't deal with scalpels or pills, we can assure you that we are still fully fledged doctors.
While we are fully understanding of any issues or concerns that you may have, we also want you to understand that we have no problem putting those fears to rest. If you are worried about something, let us know. I personally like to have my doctors talk to me while they do whatever it is they're doing. If you're like me, then let us know. If you'd rather not talk at all, let us know. We will do everything we can to make you comfortable and relaxed while we treat whatever you have come in for. Even if you are only in our office to accompany someone else, we will answer any questions you have. It really isn't a problem. We want to be open with you if you are concerned and will do all we can to make that happen. Come into Wirth and see how much better you feel after talking to us!

This week, I want to talk to you about stretching. As you may have noticed, I like to talk about how important stretching is to staying healthy. I stretch often due to having arthritis and fibromyalgia and have noticed a great improvement in my daily pain levels from the time I started stretching. When I was first diagnosed, I stopped stretching as often as I had before. When I realized I was getting worse, I began again and immediately noticed how much better I would feel throughout the day if I stretched for even ten minutes in the morning. Here are some of the stretches that I generally do.
1. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and breathe deeply and evenly. Reach up towards the ceiling but don't push yourself to go higher. Slowly bend over towards your feet so that your hands are hanging down. Take a deep breath and sigh. You will notice that your hands have now reached lower. Do this a couple of times until you feel like you cannot stretch any lower. Hold this for ten seconds, then slowly roll back up, as if you were building your spine up one vertebrae at a time until your head rests back where it should be.
2. Sit with your legs out in front of you together and reach towards your feet. If you cannot touch your toes, don't worry. Keep reaching until you feel a stretch. Once you do, hold it for ten seconds and then crawl your hands back until you are sitting up again. Do this repeatedly. Over the time I spent stretching, I was able to get my hands from around my ankles until I could hook my wrists over the tops of my toes. It took me a couple of months, but it does work wonderfully.
3. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and breathe deeply and evenly. Pretend that there is a string attached to your head that is pulling you up. Bring your hands up and stretch as close to the sky as possible before pretending to grab a bar. Hold that for ten seconds and then slowly go back to your original stance
Stretching is one of the best tools that you can have to battle pain. Come into Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville, NC for an adjustment and see what other kinds of stretches may be able to help you.

Sometimes, we receive questions that are very specific to the needs and concerns of our individual patients. While we always do our best to put each and every fear to rest, there are some questions that we hear often that are more specific to certain types of patients that may come through our doors. We wanted to address a couple of these here for you so that you can be more at ease when you walk in.
1. Can I Bring My Child In For Treatment? Yes, most definitely! Here at Wirth we love children, so you can definitely bring in kids of all ages for treatment. We have heard concerns before about having a doctor work on a developing child's skeletal system, but we can assure you that this is something you can rest easy about. If anything, bringing your child in will help them grow correctly, as chiropractic treatment can help keep the natural proper alignment of a skeleton. There is no basic age limit for children to receive chiropractic care and has in fact been used to benefit infants having trouble breast feeding.
2. I Have Arthritis and Shouldn't Crack My Joints, Should I See A Chiropractor? It is a common misconception that if you have developed arthritis you should not crack your knuckles. It is also false that cracking your knuckles causes arthritis. If you have been diagnosed with arthritis of any kind, you should definitely come in and see a chiropractor. Many people find that having chiropractic treatment actually reduces their pain levels that they attribute to arthritis. Definitely come in and see what we can do to help you.
3. I Take Drugs (legal or illegal), Can I Still Have Chiropractic Care? Although chiropractic doctors do not prescribe medication, they do understand that in some cases they may be required. You most certainly are able to have chiropractic care no matter what your drug use history looks like. If you are concerned, however, it is always a good idea to let your doctor know what you have taken over the past couple of days so that they have a better idea of how to treat you.
We hope that these questions have helped to ease some of your concerns. Come into Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville, NC and see just how much of a difference chiropractic treatment can make in your life.

This week, I really wanted to focus on how much good chiropractic work can be doing for our country as a whole along with you as an individual. We comment a lot about how we are non-invasive and how those who come to us can't expect to receive pain killers and be sent home, but that doesn't always translate to how that is helpful. In light of many things, including the health care plans that are currently being debated by the government, we wanted to remind you just how beneficial some of our treatments can be.
First, I wanted to comment on how we don't use surgery or injections. Many of us, myself included, don't like the idea of going under the knife. While we all know that it is sometimes unavoidable, it is always good to avoid it if we can. There are many more complications that can arise from going under anesthesia than can come from having your neck cracked. You may have a bad reaction to the medication that is injected in you and even though your doctor normally will hold you to make sure that doesn't occur, it can still be terrifying if it does. While we certainly aren't saying that you should never use this as an option, you may want to think about going through other possibilities first.
Secondly, I really wanted to bring up the opioid usage our country is seeing right now. Quite a few people I know have passed from overdosing and even more of those people know others who have passed from this. A large amount of people are battling many different kinds of addictions and drugs are currently one of the most dangerous kinds that we as a country are dealing with. While we know that chiropractic care won't be able to stop drug and opioid addiction and abuse, there is always the hope that we can make even a small amount of difference.
We always want to remind you that you should talk with your general practitioner about the type of treatment you are going to seek. They should be kept up to date with what you are doing medically and this includes with chiropractic treatments. Come into Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville, NC and let us know how you want us to help you.

During the summer, there are a couple of things that we need to worry about that aren't really an issue during any other season of the year. While I wish that I could just say extreme temperatures, we know that this isn't true. After all, the winter can have some pretty nasty numbers, only on the other end of the spectrum. While winter presents its own issues in regards to health and keeping your body temperature in the right area, many people argue that winter is easier to deal with due to the ability to bundle up more. In the summer, however, there is only so much that you can take off and that doesn't always solve the issue.
Heat exhaustion is a serious medical issue that many people experience every year. Those who are more at risk include children and the elderly, as their bodies don't regulate temperature as well as those who are of a moderate age. Also, depending upon other health issues, some people may be more susceptible. If you are a caretaker to someone who is non-verbal or who has a mental health or developmental disorder which prevents their ability to voice problems, you should also keep close watch for heat exhaustion. Here are some of the symptoms that you may see.
- Muscle Cramps and Aches
- Fatigue
- Excessive Thirst
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headache
- Fainting
- Agitation
- Cold Sweats
- Slow or Weak Heartbeat
- Anxiety
- Confusion
While not all of these symptoms will present themselves in each person, it is still extremely important to remember them until you know how someone does react to excessive heat. If you believe that someone may be developing heat exhaustion, you should immediately get fluids into them as well as getting them to a cooler area. Also, getting them medical attention is absolutely imperative. Heat illnesses are nothing to mess around with or delay getting them help regarding.
Here at Wirth Chiropractic in Greenville NC, we do have chiropractic doctors but at the end of the day, we are still a doctor's office. What we really care about is your health. While we may have a focus in muscles and joints, we still understand that certain things are worth mentioning or reminding people about each year when the issue comes around. Heat exhaustion is one of those things. Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
