Driving in the Rain

Greenville Chriopractor

The summer is drawing to a close, but one thing that definitely isn’t slowing down are the rain storms. Over the next few weeks, my local forecast has only four days where there isn’t at least a 20% chance of rain. As we start the transition into fall, it isn’t surprising to see this kind of weather as we look ahead. This is especially true when we consider all of the tropical storms and possible hurricanes that are brewing. While this is fine if you are inside and can curl up with a warm drink and a relaxing pastime, it can be a bit nerve wracking if you have to drive through it.
Driving in the rain is never an enjoyable experience. Even if everything goes fine, it can be frustrating to deal with the limited visibility and the other drivers on the road. It always seems like people either drive too fast for the conditions or drive far too slow when the conditions are less than ideal. Getting a good commute in the rain can seem like an impossibility and it isn’t uncommon to see an increase in the number of crashes when the weather is poor. There are a few things that you can do to help reduce your risk, however.
Having your headlights on is a simple way to make sure that other drivers can see that you are there. Most states have a law which requires you to have your headlights on if your windshield wipers are on, but even without the legal requirement it is a good idea to keep them on in the rain. Also, reducing your speed and using your turn signals can go a long way in regards to keeping yourself safe when conditions are less than ideal on the road.
